Synthetic 'leather' is usually made with synthetic components like PU, nylon, PVC, etc. to have the same appearance as real leather. Sometimes these materials are labeled 'Vegan Leather' because they are not derived from animals.
While synthetic leather is less durable than real leather, it is resistant to both abrasions and cuts, which makes it an ideal fabric for upholstery in homes with children or pets.
PU leather, or polyurethane leather, is an artificial leather made of thermoplastic polymer used for making furniture or shoes. 100% PU leather is completely artificial and is considered vegan. There are some types of PU leather called bicast leather that have actual leather but has a polyurethane coating on top.
Textile leather is imitation leather. Such terms are misleading for end users and the use of these terms is forbidden in some countries. Most sellers of textile leather argue that the terms "artificial leather" or "imitation leather" are also not understood as leather.
Vegan leather is manufactured using synthetic plastics like PVC and PU or organic materials, including plants, fruits, fungi and tree bark. Real leather is produced using animal hides.
Most faux leather on the market today consists of a base textile covered with a plastic material.
