Corn oil contains some healthy components like vitamin E and phytosterols, but overall it's not considered a healthy fat. That's because it's highly refined and high in inflammatory omega-6 fats that should be limited in a typical Western diet. There are many healthier alternatives to corn oil.
Production. Almost all corn oil is expeller-pressed, then solvent-extracted using hexane or 2-methylpentane (isohexane). The solvent is evaporated from the corn oil, recovered, and re-used. After extraction, the corn oil is then refined by degumming and/or alkali treatment, both of which remove phosphatides.
While olive oil has been considered the “healthiest” oil, recent research shows that corn oil is more effective and faster at reducing LDL cholesterol. Corn oil also contains compounds called phytosterols, which help your body reduce cholesterol absorption.
