For medical heating purposes: place in the microwave (1000 watts) for 15 seconds. Rub it for 10 seconds and use it if it reaches the right temperature. If the temperature is not enough, alternately put it in the machine for another 5 seconds and rub for 5 seconds and repeat this until the desired temperature is reached.
Attention: excessive heat of the package will cause skin burns or bursting of the package!
For cold use: put the package in the freezer for 2 hours (staying the package longer in the freezer will increase the cold retention). Then leave it on the desired position for about 15 minutes.
Placing something cold at the injury site causes the blood vessels, arteries and veins, to narrow. This reduces blood flow through the area and helps reduce inflammation and swelling. Adding heat to the area has the opposite effect: opening the blood vessels up and increasing blood flow through injured tissue.
Heat. Brings more blood to the area where it is applied. Reduces joint stiffness and muscle spasm, which makes it useful when muscles are tight. Should not be used for the first 48 hours after an injury.
